Ophiopogonis Radix (mai men tung)  麥門冬

Nature:  Slightly cold; sweet and slightly bitter; attributive to heart, lungs and stomach.

Characteristics: The root of a perennial herb regarded as a superior herb.

Therapeutic effects: Nourish yin and moisturize the lung with dry cough and thick sputum; nourish the stomach and promote the production of body fluid for dry throat and mouth; nourish the heart and clear away heart-fire manifested as fever, palpitation and insomnia; increase coronary flow an d decrease blood sugar.
