Rehmannia Radix (sheng di) 生地
Nature: Cold; sweet; attributive to heart, kidneys, liver and small intestine.
Characteristics: The root like stem of a perennial and is a very commonly used drug. It has three different forms: the fresh root, the dry root and the steamed/cooked root. The fresh ones are strongest in its potency, the steamed ones are for enhancing the blood tonifying property and the dry ones are most commonly used.
Therapeutic effects: Clear away heat and cool blood; nourish yin to promote the production of body fluid for lung dryness with cough and for diabetes.
