Aconite and Pig Bone Soup


Painful joints and is more intense with the change to cold weather, pain reoccurring and is always at the same spots and sometimes swollen, the pain can be slightly alleviated by heat, inflexible joints and limbs.


Alleviate pain by warming the meridian, expel wind and dampness, promote diuresis to reduce dampness, nourish blood, invigorate vital energy, clear toxic materials.


  • Radix Aconite (chuan wu tou) 川烏頭- 12gm
  • Joint fir (ma huang) 麻黃- 8gm
  • White peony (bai shao) 白芍- 20gm
  • Astagalus (huang qi) 黃耆- 20gm
  • Licorice (gan cao) 甘草- 8gm
  • Pig hip bone 豬交骨- 640gm
  • Ginger 生薑- a few slices

1.   Rinse bone and put in boiling water to cook for 5 minutes, remove and rince.

2.   Rinse herbs. 

3.   Put all ingredients in a soup pot with 3 litres of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to cook over medium heat for 2 hours to about 2 cups of soup.

4.   Season with salt to taste and drink soup only.


Take on a regular basis to alleviate symptoms. Aconite cannot be taken for more than 12gm per day because of slight toxicity.
