Ginkgo Duck Soup


Chronic cough.


Nourish 5 vital organs, relieves cough and clears phlegm.

Ginkgo (acts on lungs and kidney; good for memory and brain; anti-aging; for treating asthma, impotence, ringing in the ears, eyes degeneration, abnormal vaginal discharge, white urine and frequent urination)

INGREDIENTS: (2  to 3 servings)

  • Duck – one whole
  • Chinese ham – 30 gm
  • Ginger – 2 slices
  • Green onion – 2 (cut into sections)
  • Gingko (ying xing) 銀杏/白果- 15

1.   Wash duck and cut into quarters. Remove skin, neck, tail and obvious fat. Put duck in boiling water to cook for 5 minutes. Remove and rinse.

2.   Rinse ham and cut into thin slices.

3.   Crack open gingko, cut seeds into halves and put in boiling water for a few minutes to remove skin and white kernel in the middle.

4.   Put all ingredients except onion in a soup pot with about 3 litres of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to simmer for 3 hours to about 4 cups of soup (add boiling water to the cooking if necessary).

4.   Add salt to taste and onon, then serve.  


To be taken once a week for people with chronic cough or for smokers. Do not eat more than 10 ginkgo each time because over dozing can be toxic.

This soup is good for prevention and is suitable for the whole family.
