Chinese Yam, Chestnut and Cow Tendon Soup

SYMPTOMS:

Sore loin and legs, excessive urine and loose bowel.

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:

Strengthen kidney, tendon and bones.

INGREDIENTS: (2 servings)

  • Chinese yam (shan yao) 淮山 – 30gm
  • Chestnut 粟子 – 10
  • Red dates 去核紅棗 – 6
  • Fresh cow tendon 牛筋 – 300gm
  • Ginger - 2 slices.

1.   Wash cow tendon, cut into sections and put in boiling water to cook for 5 minutes, remove and rinse.

2.   Remove outer shell of chestnut with a knife. Put chestnut in boiling water to cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Retrieve and remove membrane while warm.  

3.   Rinse herbs. Put all ingredients in a soup pot with about 12 cups of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to simmer for 3 hours to about 4-5 cups of soup left.

4.   Add salt to serve and eat content with soup.
