Mung Bean Dessert




Detoxify and lower internal or summer heat. Can lower blood pressure and prevent constipation.


  • Mung beans 綠豆 – 40 gm
  • Job’s tears 薏以仁 – 20 gm
  • Brown sugar – to taste

1.   Soak mung beans ahead of time for a couple of hours if possible and rinse clean.

2.   Rinse job’s tears.

3.   Put the two ingredients in a pot with about 5 cups of water and bring to boil. Lower heat to medium and cook for about 30 minutes or until the beans are soft and mushy and turn into congee like soup.  

4.   Add sugar to serve. 


Suitable for the whole family. Eat as dessert after meal or in mid-afternoon as snack. It is highly recommended to take once or twice a month throughout the year. 

During summer months, it can achieve best detoxifying effects by adding fresh or dried sting grass 臭草 or Japanese Honeysuckle (jin yin hua) 金銀花 to the cooking.
