Ginseng, Yam and Chicken Congee


Deficiency of blood and qi, weak and lack of energy.


Promote qi and blood, moisturize body and skin, improve immune system and benefit all vital organs, and restore energy.


  • Chicken - one whole
  • Ginseng (ren shen) 人參 -  15gm (cut into thin slices)
  • Chinese yam (shan yao) 淮山- 40gm
  • Rice - 120gm

1.   Wash chicken, cut into quarters, remove skin and fat and put in boiling water to cook for 5 minutes, remove and rinse.

2.   Put chicken in a soup pot with about 12 cups of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to cook over medium heat for one hour with about 6 cups of water left. Remove chicken, and keep aside.

3.   Rinse rice and other ingredients and put them into the chicken soup and cook over medium heat until the rice has turned into a porridge/congee (about 30 minutes).

4.   Shred chicken meat and add to the rice congee and cook for 5 minutes.

5.   Add seasoning (salt and pepper) to serve.


Not suitable when having flu or loose bowel.
