  • Broomrape (rou cong rong) 肉蓯蓉 - 15gm
  • Dodder seed (tu si zi) 菟絲子- 10gm
  • Grass-leave sweetflag (shi chang pu)  石菖蒲- 9gm
  • Aromatic turmeric root-tuber (yu jin) 鬱金- 9gm
  • Chinese yam (shan yao) 淮山- 50gm
  • Mutton - 500gm
  • Chestnut - 100gm

1.   Prepare chestnuts ahead of time by cutting a few crosses on the surface of chestnut shell (with scissor) and put them in a toaster oven to bake on medium heat (a few at a time) for about 10 minutes. Use a small knife to remove shell and membrane together while hot (please wear gloves). The alternative method is to remove the hard shell first with a small knife, then put chestnuts with membrane in boiling water to cook for about 8 minutes. Strain and remove membrane while warm.

2.   Soak Chinese yam for 30 minutes, rinse and break up into smaller pieces.

3.   Wash and cut mutton into small pieces. Put in boiling water to cook for 5 minutes. Retrieve and rinse.

4.   Rinse other herbs and put in a gauze bag. Put it together with mutton in a pot with adequate water (about 3 liters), cover and cook over medium high heat until mutton is tender.

5.   Reduce to low heat and add Chinese yam and chestnuts to cook until chestnut is soft.

7.   Add salt to serve. Eat content with soup.

No limitation.
