Eight Treasure Rice




Promote general health, improve energy and warming the body.


  • Glutinous rice  糯米– 1 cup
  • Chinese yam (shan yao) 淮山 – 4 pieces
  • Goji-berries (gou ji zi) 枸杞子 - 15
  • lotus seeds  蓮子- 10
  • lily bulb 百合 – one handful
  • job’s tears 薏以仁 – one handful
  • fresh chestnut  栗子- 6
  • fresh mushroom  鮮冬菇 - 3

1.   Soak rice for at least 2 hours, best overnight and strain.

2.   Soak all herbal ingredients together for one hour and rinse clean. Cut yam into smaller pieces. Put all in a pot with about 2 cups of water and cook until soft and strain.    

3.   Cut mushroom and chestnut into smaller pieces.

4.   Put one spoon of oil in a frying pan or wok and add mushroom and chestnut to stir-fry for a few minutes. Add rice and cooked ingredients and two to three spoons of water. Stir to mix and cover with lid to cook for a couple of minutes. Stir again and add water if necessary until the rice is cooked.

5.   Add seasoning (salt and a little soy sauce) to serve.
