Chinese Yam, Goji-berries & Pigeon Soup




Benefit liver and eyes, improve digestion, prevent dizziness, improve memory


  • Chinese yam (shan yao) 淮山 - 20gm
  • Goji-berries / Chinese wolfberries (gou ji zi) 枸杞子 - 15gm
  • Astragalus (huang qi) 黃耆 - 10gm
  • Pigeon - one
  • Ginger - two slices
  • Green onion - one

1.   Wash pigeon and cut into halves, remove skin and obvious fat. Put pigeon in boiling water to cook for 3 minutes. Remove and rinse.

2.   Soak herbs for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse a few times.

3.   Put all ingredients in a soup pot with about 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to simmer for 3 hours to about 2 cups of soup (add boiling water to the cooking if necessary).

4.   Add salt to taste and serve.
