Natural and herbal remedy recipes for weight loss

Weight Loss

Overweight can be due to many reasons but primarily, there must be an intake of calories greater than what the body needs, therefore resulting in accumulation of fat. People who exercise and eat healthy are rarely overweight. If food is eaten modestly early in life, the body will develop fewer fat cells, have a smaller appetite and obesity is rare. Once the body has developed large amount of fat cells, they are more ready to balloon up whenever there is a chance.

Eating right is key to prevent obesity:

1.  Avoid sugar and salt

Avoid sugar, high fructose corn syrup and any sugar substitute is number one priority in weight loss. Eat fruits in moderation and in good variety. Banana, apple, papaya, berries, watermelon, grapefruit and pomelo are all suitable. Avoid fruits with high sugar content such as grapes and oranges. Limit salt intake to avoid over drinking water which can cause water retention.

2.  Eating regular three meals a day

Three meals a day is necessary in keeping the body satisfied which can prevent snacking and overeating. Skipping breakfast will slow down metabolism and develop gall bladder stone. In fact, breakfast should be the most nutritious meal of the day. Eat less at dinner and it should be at least 3 hours before bedtime.

3.  Diet should be low in protein and dairy products

It is because they are acid forming foods. Instead diet should be high in vegetables and fruits because of their fiber and anti-oxidant properties. Studies have found that people who ate the most fiber have gained the least weight over time. Eat less meat high in saturated fat because they are harder to digest and make the liver, kidney and spleen work harder and will result in constipation, slower metabolic rate and early aging of the whole body systems. Lean and easy to digest animal protein such as chicken and fish are recommended.

4.  Eat low glycemic-index foods

Foods like nuts, leafy green veggies, small amount of lean meats and fruit to satisfy your appetite and shed pounds. Eliminate the intake of refined sugars, starch and refined carbohydrates.

5.  Avoid trans-fat and highly processed foods

It is because they are causing dysfunction of the digestive system and build up of bad bacteria and waste in the digestive tracts. Restrict inflammatory omega-6 oils and increase anti-inflammatory omega-3 foods such as oily fish and some whole nuts.

6.  Eat slowing

It can prevent overeating because it allows food to reach the stomach first and turn off the hunger signal before you have already eaten too much.

7.  Drink water

Drinking pure clean water and not sugar drinks or soda has less chance of putting on weight. Plus the phosphoric acid in soda may change the acid balance in your blood causing bone loss and osteoporosis. Diet drinks are acidic and will make people hungry easily therefore causing over eating. Avoid caffeine drinks as well because they promote insulin secretion, which puts fat into cells. Drink water at regular intervals, preferably half cup every hour and not too much at a time. Do not take more than 6 cups per day to lose weight. Do not drink water, especially cold water, before or during meal because it will dilute digestive enzymes, which are necessary to dissolve fat.

8.  Taking nutritional soup

Take soup regularly as the main course of meals can be the most effective approach to lose weight because soup is nutrient dense, easy to digest and yet filling and satisfying. You can never overeaten with soup.

Mix 1/4 cup of the dried berries (from health food stores) with 1/4 cup raisins and 1/4 cup walnuts for a nourishing trail mix. Or for dessert, pour 1/4 cup hot water into a bowl with 2 tbsp dried berries; let sit 10 minutes. Rinse a few times and drain, then spoon over 1/2 cup low fat yogurt.

Apples

Apples are high in fiber and filling. The antioxidants in apples may help prevent metabolic syndrome, a condition marked by excess belly fat or an "apple shape". Apples are the ideal on-the-go low-calorie snack and can fill you up.
