Winter Melon and Job's Tears Soup



Retention of water resulting in occasional swelling of face and eyes, cough with phlegm, dull and dark complexion.


Diuretic, clears mucus, relieves dampness and is effective in losing weight.  

INGREDIENTS: (2 to 3 servings)

  • Winter melon 冬瓜 – 180gm
  • Job's tears (yi yi ren) 薏以仁 – 30gm
  • Citrus peel (chen-pi)  陳皮 (pre-soaked and with white tissue removed) – one piece
  • Lean pork – 200gm

1.    Wash pork, cut into large pieces and put in boiling water to boil for a few minutes, remove and rinse.

2.    Remove skin of melon and cut into cubes.

3.    Rinse herbs and put all ingredients in a soup pot with about 2 litres of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to simmer for 2 hours.

4.   Add a little salt to serve.


Not suitable for people with hepatitis, duodenal ulcer, or gastroenteritis.
