Monkey-head Mushroom and Dried Snail Soup


Yin deficiency syndrome.


Tonify yin; benefit qi and circulation; lower blood pressure and cholesterol and regulate blood sugar; improve digestive functions, treat ulcer and stomach tumor; improve immunity and prevent cancer. Also benefit people with symptoms of neuritis.

INGREDIENTS: (2 to 3 servings)

  • Monkey-head mushroom (Hericium) 猴頭菇 - 80gm
  • Dangshen 黨參 - 80gm
  • Dried red snail 紅肉螺頭 - 40gm
  • Honey dates 蜜棗 – 3
  • Lean pork - 320 gm
  • Ginger - 2 slices
  • Citrus peel (chen-pi) 陳皮 (pre-soaked and with white tissue removed) - one small piece

1.   Soak dried snail for a couple of hours and rinse.

2.   Wash pork and cut into large piece and put in boiling water to cook for a few minutes. Remove and rinse.

3.   Soak mushroom for 30 minutes or until fully rehydrated and rinse many times until water is clear. Separate into smaller pieces.

4.   Rinse herbs. Put all ingredients in a soup pot with about 12 cups or 3 litres of water. Bring to a boil, remove foam and reduce heat to simmer for 3 hours to about 4 cups of soup (add boiling water to the cooking if necessary).

5.   Add salt to taste and serve.


No limitation. Use regularly for health promotion.
